Life in the South is pretty good--except for the overwhelming presence of "Bronco Nation." I just finished my 20th year teaching (yikes!), and I'm looking forward to number 21. The music has been such fun--a great challenge and pleasure in my life.

Coach--I almost cried watching 18th hole today, and I'm man enough to admit it! I talked to my dad tonight. He is in Kellogg for the Brad Conner tournament, and he said he tried to find a Greg Norman- style straw hat to wear tomorrow (even though Greg's going with the baseball cap these days). Go sh...

How about Greg Norman?

I don't know if he can close (so often didn't close in his youth), but it sure was fun to watch him hold the lead at the end of round three of the British Open.

Saturday concert

Okay, it's time for a shameless plug. I'll be participating in an outdoor concert at my old church in Kellogg, Christian Life Center (308 W. Mission) this coming Saturday evening, July 12th. They'll be setting up a stage in the parking lot and having free live music from 6:00 to 10:00 that night. My...

Did I see that the Kellogg girls took second place in the state golf tournament? Way to go, Coach!

Okay, I guess I'll get in on this craziness. My brothers (mostly Paul and David) created a whiffle ball golf course around our house on Emerald. This is when we were in college, mind you. You were allowed one club and a limited amount of athletic tape on the ball. It was a 36-hole course with a vari...

We did go to state in 1979 and 1980, but we didn't finish with any hardware those years. Otherwise you are right about the 70s and 80s. Kellogg won in 1964 and then had a 14-year drought, before going four years straight, from 1978 through 1981. Thanks for your input. It's good to be back.

Well, it's that time of year again, and it is the 30th anniversary of my first attendance at a state basketball tournament. The year was 1978, and my family made the trek to Pocatello to see the Cats play. I think maybe we had this conversation on previous bulletin board, but I am wondering if Mr. K...

Oh my gosh--I am so not going to read that message! Then again, if I don't learn to communicate that way, maybe I'll be out of a job in a few years.

Timberline v. Mountain Home: "The Wolves pulled away in the second half in a non-conference opener characterized by aggressive play, fouls and turnovers. Timberline's defense and high scoring third and fourth quarters secured the win. Mountain Home was out-rebounded 58 to 38 and shot just 24% F...

Ken (Hi, I'm Laurie, nice to meet you) and my fifth brother, Simon, I'm so glad I could bring some laughter to your day. I've got a couple of brilliant students this year who find my humor far, far beneath them, so I needed the positive feedback! For those of you who enjoy, as I do, keeping track of...

I'm just sitting here listening to my 8-track tape, while I talk on my rotary phone, and type on my typewriter.

I do try to keep a positive outlook, though.

Casey B,

I've been out of town, so I'm late with this, but let me add my birthday greetings. I seem to recall that you watched me turn 30. I can't believe you're there, now.

Thanks for banking in that three-pointer against BF at state in '95.

Casey B-- Thanks for asking! He was soooo awesome. My best friend, Amy Fink, who I met more than 30 years ago when we were both students at Sunnyside Elementary, flew down and went with me. I seriously would go see him every year. It is cool for me to hear him sound better than ever at age 59 (espec...

Hey--I know most of you young folks are into the hard rockin' music, but I am thrilled to say that I'm going to see James Taylor this coming Tuesday. He is my favorite singer/songwriter of all time, and this will be my third concert. Can't wait!

Thanks for the great report, Jason. I'll pass it along to Mr. Lowe.

We sure enjoyed having Nick at our church camp a few weeks ago. He has his father's quiet strength.

Still praying.

On this day in 1975 my family moved back to Kellogg, after eleven years in Meridian. It was the fourth move between the two cities for my parents, but we hadn't lived in Kellogg since just after my birth in 1964. This move was the hardest for me, by far. Kellogg seemed very far away and separate fro...
