As far as negative catagories go I agree, infact I didin't include errors or caught stealing. Blown saves could be considered a negative catagory, however I fealt that this was an important stat. Losses also are a negative catagory, but I think you would agree that it is an important catagory that should be included.
I agree on the pickoffs and shutouts, but I was just trying to even the scoring between pitching and hitting. I could go either way on that.
The main thing about the percentages, which I do understand you arguement, is I was trying to find some way to help the power hitters who get walked alot. Now I could be over compensating on that by having walks and On Base Percentage. Like I said before I'm doing this for the first time, but I do think there should be something to help players like Howard ect. Maybe either walks or OB%. I now will most likely, whether you join or not, change back to hits, doubles, triples, ect.
As for pitching, I can't remember what the pitching numbers from last season were? I think we had two starting pitchers, two closers, and one "pitcher" that could go either way. Originally that is how I had it. I like to leave room for a middle, "holds", relief pitcher. And I think the "extra" pitcher adds kind of a cool, "build your pitching staff how you want it" feature. Have three starters, or "I'm going to dominate the holds" catagory. I don't know, I was just thinking out side the box I guess. Maybe it's a bad idea. As far as the innings, didn't we have that set at 18 innings last year? I thought I was being tough by adding a couple. I mean, I really do understand what you are saying. I hated it last year when you could have two good starts and then you're practically done, or ever just take a chance and just use closers.
Like I said, I'm open to most anything, except I hate caught stealing.
My question, to someone who has done this, is how, if even it is important, do you balance pitching, which in my opinion is more important that hitting in the real game, with hitting? I guess maybe I'm trying too hard to make it like the real thing. I think I have already changed my mind in some areas, some other things I need to think about. Food for thought. I hope you respond to my thoughts on this.

Juan Pierre will start the season as the 4th OF but i'm not sure how long it will be that way. Andre Ethier needs to have a consistantly good April or I think Joe Torre will make the switch w/o hesitation. There is really no need to put Pierre in as a defensive replacement because of the arm of Ethier and the fact that despite not having the speed of Juan Pierre he still covers good ground and he played LF most of last season. With Andruw Jones roaming CF how much coverage do the corner OF's really need?
Joe Torre has a history of prefering a proven veteran over a "potential" type prospect so that also favors JP. If the Dodgers don't get production from the top 2 in the order I wouldn't be suprised to see Torre bench Ethier in favor of having Pierre and Furcal hit back-to-back in some capacity.
and finally - the Dodgers could get a lot more in return for an Andre Ethier than they could for a Juan Pierre so I wouldn't be suprised if Ethier was packaged to Detroit for Brandon Inge or any other team dangling a solid 3B in return. This scenerio won't happen if Blake DeWitt provides enough production until Nomar Garciparra gets healthy.
phew, that was fun.

I knew that one would get you fired up Roops. LOL...
I just saw a stat that made me sick to my stomach. Alex Rodriguez officially makes over $6 Million more than a whole team does:
"Boosted by his new deal with the New York Yankees, A-Rod tops the major league baseball salary list at $28 million, according to a study of contract terms by The Associated Press. The 33 players on the entire Florida Marlins' opening-day roster and disabled list total $21.8 million."
How about he takes a $1 Million pay cut and donate it to khsgrads...

Here's a fun one M's fans - George Sherrill just notched his 4th save of the season today and 3 of those saves have come against the M's. Perhaps the M's should have traded O'Flaherty instead of Sherrill. How much would M's fans like to have Rafael Soriano back?
I'm just glad I have Sherrill on my fantasy team - I was thinking about trading him for Adam "don't call me Pacman" Jones.

The Mariners are just playing stupid baseball. Seriously, is John McLarren the answer at the helm? I have watched just about every game to this point and they just don't look fired up to play baseball. I agree Jason about Sherril - he was so good for the M's.........I don't get why we let him go. It is early I know and there is a long way to go but it is just frustrating watching this.Jason Spoor wrote:Here's a fun one M's fans - George Sherrill just notched his 4th save of the season today and 3 of those saves have come against the M's. Seriously, Richie Sexson could be the worst clean-up hitter of all time. He hit the ball out of the infield the other night and I started cheering just because. My girlfriend said, "he flew out to right field". It's a start.
The only guy in Mariners history that has frustrated me more then Sexon is Bobby Ayala - he had an 88 mph fastball and an 88mhp change up....they looked the same leaving his hand and the opponents bat.
Come on M's - pick it up will ya. They are in Florida this week....I wish I could go but just too much work.
Hey Thime, want to play some wif?

Bobby "Big Game" Ayala - good call Travis.
Spot on about Richie Sexson as well - it has got to be equaly frustrating knowing that you have Wilkerson playing in right field while Wladimir Balentien is playing yet another season in Tacoma.
Why not give Jeff Clement a shot at either C, DH or 1B and just shop Sexson around - this may happen in June as Sexson will be considered a rent-a-player, he's in the final year of his contract and if you consider they power numbers he should put up I can see a large market team make a play for him.
Don't be surprised to see Richmond Lockwood Sexson wearing Yankee Pinstripes at the end of this season - the M's won't ask for the bank in return and the Yanks are the team that loves those overpriced rentals.

RIGHT LOL...
If the Mariners could get a used jock strap for Richie Sexson, that might be a plus.. You might try throwing in the real problem Bill Bavasi, but I am sure no one in their right mind would take either one... I personally couldn't believe the organization brought either one of them back.. I agree give some of the young kids like Morse a shot. Wilkerson is a bad fit, my humble opinion. My wife is a big Mariners fan, but I prefer to look from the objective side of reality..

Excellent Mariners talk Roops, Trav, & Lauren...
I don't know what McLarren is doing either... First of all he should have pitched Felix in the 9th inning on Sunday. He was only at 97 pitches and J.J. is on the DL. Knowing how terrible our bullpen is, he had no other choice and he made the wrong one... Then after Bedard was scratched from his start Sunday, he is pitching him today and not yesterday. I thought the whole point of getting him is so that they would have Bedard & Felix pitching back-to-back against teams. Now, they will have Silva in-between the two of them all year. Also, this puts Bedard and Washburn back-to-back so their opponents will see two lefties against each other in a row each series... I don't understand this at all. Their rotation is out of order big-time...
Their bullpen is so bad that I am looking forward to 97-year old Arthur Rhodes joining the team which I heard is coming soon.
Wilkerson is a joke. Richie is just Richie...
I don't know what to think. I don't know if they will be able to hold a lead until J.J. comes back. They are not going to win any 1 or 2 run games because they will not be able to hold a lead. They are going to have to get the bats going and beat teams by 3+ runs every night... I know it is early, but they are on the ropes already.
