Marion Ruth Grosvenor 1923-2008

Many of you will remember Marion as the KHS Librarian for a decade in the 1970s and 1980s.

Marion Ruth Grosvenor

Marion Ruth Grosvenor, 85, of Kellogg, pass away Oct. 13, 2008 at Mountain Valley Care and Rehabilitation of Kellogg. She was born July 7, 1923 at Portland, Ore.; Marion was the daughter of William and Gertrude Cake.

Marion attended and graduated from Grant High School of Portland, Ore.; she then attended Willamette University of Salem, Ore. and received her bachelor of science degree. Marion then furthered her education and attended Columbia University of New York and received her library of science certification.

Marion married William H. Grosvenor on Aug. 4, 1948 at Coeur d' Alene; he preceded her in death on Sept. 2, 1980. Marion moved to the Silver Valley in 1948 from Pullman, Wash.

Marion established the metallurgical library at the Bunker Hill Mining company of Kellogg. She then served as a librarian at Kellogg High School for 10 years.

Marion was a member of the A.A.U.W., a member of the Kellogg Elks, a member of the Delta Gamma sorority, a past member of the Parent Teachers Association and a member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church of Kellogg; she had also served on the Emmanuel Altar Guild. Marion served two terms on the West Shoshone Hospital board of Kellogg.

She was also a supporter of the Silver Mountain Ski Patrol. Marion loved and enjoyed her family, traveling, taking cruises, and watching the maneuvering if airplanes. She also enjoyed all kind of music, was very involved in community concerts, and was an avid reader.

Marion is survived by two sons and their spouses - Roger Grosvenor of Kellogg, Charlie and Sandy Grosvenor of Portland, Ore.; one daughter and her husband - B.J. Grosvenor and Rodney Amen of San Jose, Calif.; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband - William in 1980, one daughter - Anne Vickrey, one son - William Leland Grosvenor, and one brother - Vincent Carter.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008 at 11am at the Kellogg Funeral Chapel of Kellogg with Rev. Jane Nelson-Low officiating. Burial will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery of Kellogg.

The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church of Wallace or to the Salvation Army.
