Susan Margaret (Grant) Nelson, 61, of Kellogg, passed away Feb. 25, 2009 at the Kootenai Medical Center of Coeur d' Alene. She was born May 26, 1947 at Kellogg; Susan was the daughter of Woodrow and Gladys (Carlson) Grant.

Susan has lived in the Silver Valley all of her life. She attended and graduated from the Kellogg High School in 1965.

Susan married Ken Nelson on Nov. 9, 1979 at Kellogg.

Susan was a meat wrapper at Yoke’s Foods of Kellogg for 21 years and then she served as a checker at Yokes for 23 years. Susan loved her customers.

Susan was a member of the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church of Wallace and a member of the Kellogg Lady Elks. She loved and enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, camping, four-wheeling and watching QVC on TV.

Susan is survived by her husband- Ken Nelson of the family home of Kellogg; three daughters and their husbands- Heather and Eric Reasor of Kellogg, Kim and Dave Milholland of Nevada, and Kenna and Rob Gunderson of Post Falls; two sons- Mike and his wife Lynn Larsen of Kellogg and Aaron Larsen and his girlfriend- T.J. of Nevada; one sister- Carol Whitley of Blackfoot; 12 grandchildren- Thera, Bret, Christopher, Cole, Kaci, Jonathan, Tommi, Micah, Victoria, Kinzi, Marissa and Bryce; two great-grandchildren- Kaydence and Marlee. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister- Kay Grant, and her father and mother-in-law- Paul and Audrey Nelson.

Cremation was held and memorial services will be held at the United Church of Kellogg on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Jane Nelson-Low officiating. Inurnment will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery of Kellogg.

I for one know Susan will be missed. She was always a smiling face when I went to Yokes. She was also a wonderful neighbor when we lived uptown. More recently, she always loved to see our little Gracie when we were at the store. She always asked such great questions and was genuinely interested in how we were doing. Susan was the epitome of what makes small towns great.
