Happy March Madness

Post by Simon Miller »

Happy March Madness to all. In honor of this joyous occasion, I am posting some pictures from yesteryear, featuring some of KHSGrads.com's finest posters. Roops, Fisherrock, Travee... yep. Enjoy boys.

I also included some "rival" teams because they had some great characters (use the term lightly) on their teams. Hint: "Big Dady"

I remember playing Keep on the playgrounds in Moscow while I was in college. He was a sophmore in high school, and already HUGE! 8 years latter I see a kid on San Diego that looked familiar. I had to go look it up to make sure it was the same guy. He set the record for bench pressing 185 in the NBA combine.

Ton of great games saturday. I know Simon's still in the dumps about ND, but at least WSU continues on. I was happy to see Davidson win too. Anyone else think it was funny that SD puts Gonzaga out of the conference tournament, and then goes on and plays two teams that gonzaga beat during the year (UCONN and Western Kentucky)?

I was torn on Saturday as I like both WSU and ND. My biggest disappointment was that ND played like doo-doo. But that game was a win-win for me. And seeing Davidson beat the Hoyas made me feel a bit better about Gonzaga's loss, but only a little bit. It seems like the "underdog" Few years were the best. The kids played with passion, energy, and left it all out there game after game. Now that Few is recruiting some perhaps "higher caliber" talent, those vital ingredients seem to ebb and flow. For example, some of the Zags play with fire, but not all of them. It only takes a few selfish players with egos to ruin team chemistry.

Davidson are officially this year's bracket busters. Great team to watch.

Davidson plays a lot like....Gonzaga from 6-8 years ago. Solid if undersized guys inside who can get up. Good shooting. Good ball handling. Plays smart. Probably the biggest difference is Davidson has Curry. Not sure Gonzaga has had a scorer like that except for morrison, and he refused to play defense. Curry plays the whole game, and stays within the team game. I'm a fan of his now. If he was 2 inches taller he would be a lock for the lottery. Not sure he'll get much love at 6'3" though. Not saying he won't stick around the league for a long time as a great shooter. Just not sure he'll be able to transition to a point guard, and I doubt he'll ever be a star as a short shooting guard.

I agree with yoiur guys in every aspect. Tho Curry could be a solid shooter in the NBA and have a good career, we forget he is JUST a sophomore still, so he still has time to develop. i think he is further along than JJ Redick was as a Senior. Curry has one other advantage, he has an NBA father who has taught him everything he knows, so he will be ready for the NBA when the time comes, hopefully in two more years.

Few needs to get back to recruiting some of those HUNGRY Washington kids who want to prove soemthing when the other schools overlook them. The Sweet 16 should be a fun round to watch. This is what i love about the NCAAs, ANYTHING can happen during this tourny more than any other sporting event IMO.

Nice pics - Wow........does that bring back some memories. So funny to see the Moscow Bears - remember how difficult it was to win in Moscow Fish? Moscow could've started four guys in which three were freshman and they would still be tough to beat at home. Then, funny enough they would get beat by 15 to St. Maries in the first round at districts........weird.

Remember the white converse shoes? Hey, does the Pinehurst park still have the chain nets? I love those nets - great sound going through.......I remember the iron being unkind thou. I miss those days.

Caps, Moscow was a tough place to play. We finally got our only win their your Senior year. Despite being ranked #1 in the State we pulled it out only by 3 points in overtime I believe...

Awesome call on the Pinehurst Park. They replaced the chain nets in the mid 1990's. Rumor has it a guy got his finger stuck in the chain net somewhere and it stayed up there after he fell to the ground... I think they realized that the chain was a "basketball hazzard". LOL. Nonetheless, there were many legendary battles down at the Park. I remember many times when there would be games going on both courts and like 3 or 4 teams waiting to get on. It was beyond awesome!!! I want to thank the ballers 2/3/4/5/6 years older than me who let us young scraps play on their court when we were in 8th/9th grade and not fully developed. It definitely toughened us up and helped us out by the time we were Varsity players...

BEEF was great... Also, do you remember when we did the "Valparaiso" free-throws where you put your middle finger-tip on the valve of the basketball? Good times indeed...

I remember sitting down at the pinehurst park for hours, and when we were all tired of playing we'd try making shots from the road. 20 feet behind the basket up and over the backboard. I don't know many times we would play there till it was too dark to see. Have to drive around cause they were locking the gates. We sure had some great runs there in the summer.

Only about 357 days until the Zags are back in the NCAA Tournament. LOL. There is a good chance that the WCC will get 3 teams in again next year as St. Mary's only loses one guy on their whole team and has all 3 studs back (Diamon Simpson, Omar Samhan, & Patrick Mills). San Diego does not lose anybody on their team and will probably ride this post season's momentum into next year. And as for the Zags, they should be dynomite. SHOULD being the key word. They only lose Kuso & Pendo.

Fish - let the Zags go bub.......what about the Vandals or the Warriors - or should I say "The" Lewis & Clark State University.

Good stuff about the old days - how about these quotes and who are they?

1.) "That would've been three in college"
2.) "You reap what you sow"
3.) "I can remember drinking Mead with Beawulf"
4.) "Craaaaaaaaap.....you turkeys"
5.) "Gloria"
6.) "Brrrrrrrrrrrrttttt"

lmao - I may not know the answers to these fantastic quotes but I do know that, Travis, you sir are a welcomed addition to this bulletin board!

I believe #1 is from one of the KHS broadcasters. My initial thought was Derek Jennings but I think his quote involved the sharp shooting of a certain Wallace Miner that I can't place at this time.

Answers:

1.) Jacque Lemieux...........another one of my favorites is "The cats in the bag and it's floating down the river" Sounds cool just not sure what it means?
2.) Coach David Roberts.......he had some good ones
3.) Jay Gunter..........always enjoyed my 15 minute power knaps in his class. "Camelooooooooooooooooooot!"
4.) Not sure but remember laughing repeatedly with Hank and Simon on this one growing up.......guys?
5.) Derek Jennings.........."Oh ya"
6.) Rob Jansen..........never knew if it was real or not and still one of the funniest things ever!

Simon - love the Ray Faraca quote - he was always a ringer in the Dick Cripe Scramble.
