KHS Mascot/Colors

A young man from Orofino High School is doing a research paper on IML Mascots. He wants to know how KHS decided on the Wildcat as a mascot. I have no idea. Does anyone on the forum know?
And why we're at it, does anyone know why the colors purple and gold were chosen?
Any info would be appreciated...and sooner than later so we can help this young man with his paper.
