From the Lewiston Tribune http://www.lmtribune.com/story/obituaries/515527/:
John Dean Carlson passed away Sunday, Aug. 8, 2010, at Moscow, from complications of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. John was born Dec. 29, 1945, in Spokane, to Roy H. Carlson and Louise J. Mott Carlson. He attended Pinehurst (Idaho) Grade School and graduated from Kellogg (Idaho) Senior High School.
John worked at Bunker Hill Mining and Smelting Co. for approximately 14 years in the old roasters and the acid plant. Suffering from congenital hip disorder, John changed professions and attended North Idaho College, graduating later from the University of Idaho with a degree in psychology. He worked as a chemical dependency counselor and at the prison in Orofino.
John enjoyed hunting and fishing and the outdoors. His passion and joy was his farm in Deary, where he and his two dog companions, Sweetie and Posie, were the happiest. He regularly attended church in Deary, Moscow and wherever his travels took him.
John is survived by daughter Lori Ann Bermel; son Edward Carlson; sisters Caroline Huber of Pinehurst, and Audrey Hakala of Coeur d'Alene; and brother Stanley and Pat Carlson of Pinehurst. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Roy Alan Carlson.
